The Established Trails in Rabaçal

PR 6.4 – Levada Velha do Rabaçal (ER 105 to Casa do Rabaçal)
Distance: 4.8km
Starting at ER 105, this path follows the old path to Casa do Rabaçal, covering a distance of about 4800 meters. Along the way you can enjoy the southern landscapes characteristic of Calheta, featuring ridges and valleys. Besides, from Casa do Rabaçal, you can continue to 25 Fontes and Risco Waterfall.
PR 6.5 – Vereda do Pico Fernandes (Paul da Serra to 25 Fontes)
Distance: 3.8 km
Starting from the regional road (ER 209) on the Paul da Serra plateau, this trail follows an old path to PR 6 Levada das 25 Fontes, eventually leading to the lagoon of 25 Fontes. The highlight is the magnificent view from Pico Fernandes or Rabaçal at an altitude of 1400 meters. On clear days, enjoy a 360° view of Paul da Serra, including the impressive Pico da Urze dam. Once you’ve regained your strength, you can take the reverse route back to the starting point. Alternatively, you can follow the PR 6 25 Fountains levada walk which will take you, among other destinations, to Casa do Rabaçal.
PR 6.6 – Vereda do Túnel do Cavalo (Zona de Lazer da Caldeira to Casa do Rabaçal)
Distance: 2.3 km
This trail starts at the Caldeira leisure area and ends at Casa do Rabaçal. The first 800 meters follow a forest path until reaching the Túnel do Cavalo, also known as Furado Novo or Furado das 25 Fontes. In fact, it was built between 1863 and 1877, this tunnel transports water from the Ribeira dos Cedros and 25 Fontes to the Calheta hydroelectric plant. Subsequently, after passing through the tunnel, the trail continues along the 25 Fountains nature walk to Casa do Rabaçal.
PR 6.7 – Vereda da Câmara de Carga do Rabaçal (Rabaçal to Túnel do Cavalo)
Distance: 1.8 km
Starting at the Rabaçal loading chamber (ER 105), this trail follows an old path to the Túnel do Cavalo, covering approximately 1800 meters. Besides, along the way you can enjoy the southern landscapes characteristic of Calheta, featuring ridges and valleys.
PR 6.8 – Levada do Paul II – A Path for Everyone (Rabaçal to Estrada do Rochão)
Distance: 1.2 km
Beginning at the Rabaçal loading chamber (ER 105), this trail leads along the Levada do Paul II to the Estrada do Rochão, extending about 1200 meters (2400 meters round trip). Designed for accessibility, this trail ensures that everyone, including those with motor disabilities, can enjoy a peaceful walk in direct contact with nature. In fact, the levada originates from the Ribeira do Juncal and, along with Levada do Paul, aims to supply water to the Rabaçal loading chamber for the Calheta hydroelectric plant.
